I just bought a 2004 530iA. The manufacture date shows 7/03. How can I find out what the car is equipped with? I'm sure it's a stripped down model but I'd still like to know. How hard is it to upgrade the sound system? Thank you for any help and ideas.

As an amateur E60 owner, I'll share with you what little I've learned thus far without resorting to the standard "use the search feature, buddy..."

1. "How can I find out what the car is equipped with?" There are so many options e.g. active steering, comfort package, you'd know if you had sport package hopefully . . .you'd probably be best served with a build sheet from your dealers' service department. . .

2. "How hard is it to upgrade the sound system?" - ditto with the choices. You are "pre-LCI" which means you probably don't have MP3 capabilities. You most likely don't have IPOD integration (in the glove box) and ditto with CD Changer (in the glove box as well). All of these options require a visit to a dealer or "indy" repair shop with the capability. . .ranging from $100 labor up plus the requisite hardware available either here in the classifieds section or a popular auction site . . don't know if I can say ebay. . .

Thanks. The previous owner had the iPod integration installed. Which was a nice addition. The dealer didn't have a list (yeah right) of the features that came with the Premium and Sport Package. The Manual is a little too comprehensive because it has information for features that weren't even offered for the early (7/03) model. Thanks for the info.

Ninerfan:
First, welcome to the forum and go Niners - it can only get better.
Ask your dealer to print out the Vehicle History Report - all they need is the VIN. The report will give you a brief description of the options included on your car. Mine is also an early build 09/03 and it printed out without issues. I have premium and sports package on my 2004 545i, if dealer won't help let me know and I can get you a list.
