Hi Friends:
My build date is 4/05 (3/05 should be OK too). A recent bulletin says MP3 for me with 20+ CIP. So, I had my free update to 20.01.00 done today. It only took about three hours.
All is well. MP3 playback works perfectly. And, I haven't noticed any bads. I didn't even have to reprogram my radio stations this time around.
I had to reset a few minor functions--e.g., door locking on dirve off. I forgot to notice whether the lawyer screen goes away by itself, but actually I don't think that 20 is supposed to make it disappear voluntarily on my car. I'll post back if it does disappear by itself. I was hoping for quicker Step shifting, particularly 1st to 2nd in DS, but I haven't had time to decide if it shifts differently. I post back if I think that anything significant changed on the shifting issue.
And, I want to reiterate how high my regard is for my dealer. I usually don't divulge much info, but, given my treatment on all matters, I want to mention that North Scottsdale BMW is super. However, I did complain politely about their recent change in the quality of the free donuts today. They went from Krispie Cream to store bought. Ugh! I also put a suggestion in the suggestion box about the donuts.

I read it only once so I don't know what it says exactly. Essentially it warns against fiddling with the iDrive functions when driving. BMW hopes to avoid liability if someone has a wreck, or whatever, while trying to figure out how to set things, etc., while in motion.

I would think new engine control s/w will optimize engine performance a bit as well (I am an embedded s/w guy).

Funny... but I am so used to pressing the Idrive button as soon as I start the car that it doesn't even bother me at all...almost like wearing the seat belt to prevent from hearing the annoying chime

Some observations after update to 20.01 from 16.
Lawyer screen does go away on it own with cip 20.
BT phone had to be paired with car once again - took 30 seconds with the SE 610.
AS feels "lighter" and somewhat more responsive.

yet
it seems that the pairing problemis one that crops up,this is because 1 . no phone left with car.2.tech didnt relist the pairing information when he updated s/ware.
whilst uploading he has to firstly download and list all parameters in the car.options fitted mileage phone codes etc then when he uploads new prog he has to enter this back into the car source file a stage at a time.
question note. note your mileage and check aftewards ask if they test dive car and i wonder what the reading will be. exactly as it was or plus test milage or what ever!
also isnt it a good job we cant get at the program. and make our personalised that menu screen ,would ne a simple option that could be a matter of selection of say 10 different screens or totally personalised
check out the g-net screen menus for example ,perhaps Individual will get this first CIP 59.00 again!

Mine is a 03/05 built date. Could you call the nuckle heads at BMW of North Houston for me and tell them to fix my BT and enable MP3? Oh, and tell them to get some Shipley's Donuts. Krispy Creme is alright too. Did the SA tell you that MP3 was available with the CIP update? Is there anything official?

My Ride: 2006 525Xi, premium package, premium sound, steptronic, bi-xenon adaptive lights, PDC, rear sun shade, rear heating, cold weather package.
I dropped in my car for an oil change this morning and service advisor
asked me to bring in the car for software upgrade.
I did not even ask for it...
haha... Very nice service.
