you sure can. Autozone has a direct replacement. Get the GOLD battery and compare the Ah & CCA numbers to the new battery. I did this and have had no problems. Dealer cost was $650.00 !!!! If you get a battery with different numbers you may need to program it to the car, otherwise a simple registration should do ya. Some register and some don't, an Indy shop is cheapest.

+1 In addition to the CCA and Ah rating (a close match may reduce the need to register your new battery) - measure the case size for the correct match.

Based on the Autozone Battery receiving a "good" overall rating recently from that leading consumer reporting magazine http://db.tt/iB4IM4jE , availability, and price I bought the GOLD replacement for one of my cars. And for Autozone you can shop on-line, pick up at a local store, grab some extra discount coupons AND earn an extra 5% rebate by shopping through the link in my signature. By doing that I recently bought a replacement "GOLD" battery for one of my cars for a total savings of almost $30! Some of the the Wal-Mart EverStart batteries are also popular replacement batteries at a very low price.

Remember, it's not how much money you have / make ... it's how you spend it!!

Was up everyone one,

Just recently for the past week, My traction and brake light have been coming on at the same time. The traction message is reading, Driving Stability. Reduced driving stability in curves. Drive moderately!

The brake message reads, Start-Off assistance. Start-off assistance inactive Caution, vehicle may roll back!

Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Is a big issue or just a minor problem.

Thanks for everyone's help and info.

You may also want to try the reset procedure with the steering wheel: with engine running and transmission in Park, turn starting from center, turn the wheel all the way to the left until you basically hear a click, then steer all the way to the right, making sure that it is all the way to the right. By now the error should have cleared, if not, try one more time and make sure you really steer to both extremes.

I had the same issue recently and was ready to take it in. I was also due for a new battery. I put in the new battery myself and all the error messages went away.

I hope you had an indy register the battery. You may not be experiencing a problem now, but you may fry the battery within a year or two.

This link explains why more eloquently that I could ever explain it: http://www.munichmotorsport.com/wordpress/?page_id=164

I had those errors a few months ago. It was the steering angle sensor. BMW replaced the sensor and the problem went away. You will also notice the blinker does not stop blinking when you complete a turn....have to turn it off manually. If you are under warranty take it to BMW. Otherwise you are looking at a $500 part+labor (programming) repair.

How many miles are you at? This error occurred for me at 45k miles.

I looked at my repair sheet and this is the sensor, SZL, that was replaced. # 61-31-9-111-997.

Yup...happened to me at 44K miles. Luckily I was under warranty.

I had similar error messages, plus the start up assistant not working, on my 2008 and it turned out the problem was, indirectly anyway, the battery. I was told after diagnostics that I had an "unsatisfactory driving profile"--translation, I wasn't driving the car enough. These cars have so many chips that draw juice they can adversely affect the battery if you don't drive the car enough for the battery to recharge properly. They replaced my battery (was under warranty) but they basically told me to drive the car more and I shouldn't have a recurrence. All sounded far fetched to me but I checked it out and there is some truth to what they said. I think they did tweak the car in later models to minimize this phenomenon but can't swear to that.

I looked at the battery and the green dot is in the center so I am going to have the people who put the springs in check and see if they somehow left the sensors unplugged or they were loose and came unhooked? If that doesn't work I will try the battery.

Thanks all I will keep you posted

SZL or steering angle sensor is located on the steering column.

Update.... I took the car back to the people who installed my springs and shocks due to a squeak and low and behold the ABS Sensor wire was rubbing against the tire and was completely in two pieces. Good news for me as I don't have to spend any more money.

Thanks
