Having experienced 15,16,17,18,and 19 inch wheels on BMW 5series cars I would doubt if there is any difference between 18 and 17 inch wheels. If you were to go from 18RF down to 16Non RF then the difference would be quite noticable in terms of ride quality. When I first test drove an E60 the car test car had 17" RF wheels I then bought an E60 with 18" RF and there was no difference.

I should stick with the 18's as you'll certainly notice the difference when you, ahem, look back at your car after parking

I understand what you mean, thrust me.
The roads in Finland are not that great do to the winters, cars with spike winter tires and over 60 ton trucks running on the roads.

You probaply do wise to change the wheels to 17" and use 225/50 tires!

I drive with 18" wheels and runflat tires in the summertime. I will buy non RF's for the next summer!

My car rides like on silk with 16" 225/55 spikeless wintertyres.

I test drove the E60 with 17 and 18" wheel. 17" does feel a little bit more comfortable. But 18" looks much better, I won't trade a 18" with a 17"

Ric, how does the car handle in snow/ice with kitkas ? You see, we have to buy a pair of 17" winter wheels, but it is yet to decide whether we should go with studs or spikeless'. Any info is good info

Hi Fin535dA,

The Continentals are just great. I had Nokian Q's on my old E39 and they where not good.
The tire was so soft that when you accelerated a bit harder the DSC went on. No such problem with the spikeless Conties.

I have driven my last 5 BMW's without spikes. There are only 2-3 days per winter that I wish I would have spikes under the car.
The DSC does do a great job!

Cheers,
Riku

18" is fine, since E60's suspension is too soft to my liking.

you might want to considering different tires for your 18" because tires comfortability matter as I experienced.

You speak with wisdome.

Seems that you're not for Pirelli's...
In your experience, what 18" 245/40 summer tires do you recommend?
RF or non RF's?
