I am upgrading to 19" and was set to get the 166 M5 wheels, they were out of this world good looking and DropDeadGorgeous on the E60. Yet I ended up getting the 172 M wheels instead.
I see the 166 commonly everywhere, there are too many replicas around which took away its novelty, every other bimmer here in Toronto has them as winter spares.
The 172 are far less common and when I saw them up close, they aggressively smile at me. I am really pleased with my decision, especially when viewing from a low angle on the highway, the hollow centre spinning looks HOT its unreal!
I am really excited to share this new toy, I hope to see more 172 owners here on e60.
Got the Continental sport contact 2 to start and hopefully to replace with PS2 next summer.

staggered looks perfect to me, love the stance.

though i have noticed that pretty much all the demo cars being run by my dealer have 172's on them so maybe they are this years 'in thing'?
Well pleased with mine. they make the whole car look more aggressive.

What about keeping these clean? I am considering upgrading to these or 166s but I am hesitant since my 124s are very easy to clean and look pretty damn good anyway.

These are original OEM 172, from an owner who swap them out for guess which? The 166.
As for cleaning, I can see it being a bit tricky and definitely more work than the 124.
I ususally hose them down twice in between an application of wheel cleaner, then hand dry with rags.Takes about half an hour to do all four.
