Last week I took my car in to get the 16.2 upgrade to correct problems with the radio,it would come on by its self, rain sensor problems and problems with the auto headlights.they had to put in a new TCU UNIT. All the problems that I went in for were fixed. When I got the car back everything was fine. The next day when I went to use the car the SOS Malfunction sign came up on the display.I tried pressing the SOS button and nothing happen. Went back to the dealer and they put in another TCU UNIT,had the car overnite and when they started up the car the next morning the same thing happen,SOS Malfunction. They put in a third TCU UNIT yesterday,Friday, and told me I could take the car over the week end and see what happens when the car comes out of the sleep mode and if the same thing happens again its a PUMA Case. Well the same thing happen again.Any body else having problems like this? TIA

I have not had this issue, but sounds like they should try to change something else out beside the TCU unit.

I will be hopefully getting 16.2 when they replace my CCC/Mask hopefully in the next couple of days.

Have not heard about someone else having this problem but hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Mine was upgraded perfectly. No problems at all.

Well, i think you should bring your car to another dealer for the upgrade. Other dealers may do a better job..

My dealer pulled 16.2 off their upgrade computers. They said that it corrupted data and had already burnt out the TCUs in three 745s. So they put me on 16.1. It has all the E60 features of 16.2. Perspective NAV, better directions, improved BT functionality and faster boot up.

Our administrator(Lomag) had the same thing done,16.2 upgrade at the same dealer,JMK BMW,with out any problems, even raved about it in his post.IMO its not a dealer problem its in the software.

No. I didn't have the car back long enough to try it out.

Mainly engine smoothness. I have a 6spd manual so software doesn't effect it.

Dealer called me today to get the information of what happen over the week end. After our conversation they said it was a PUMA Case and that my car was not the only one, there were other cars, 7series and 5 series with similar problems that they couldn't straighten out.
cheers

I have 16.2 for 3 days now without problem. The new map is smaller due to the soft-buttons, but I welcome the trade off.

The new software cured my headlight issues as mentioned above, but I did not detect any changes regarding shifting (SMG). I love it now that you can turn off, or mute the radio permanently. No more radio shock in the morning when your ears are most sensitive.

The little air flow indicator at the bottom of the screen is replaced by audio info. I don't mind that.

I also noticed that the i-drive boots up a little faster now. Especially usefull with PDC.

All in all, 16.2 is worth it.
