Guys, I noticed that after a software update, it takes approximately .5 second after I turn the key for the ignition to start. I clearly remember it being instantanious before the software update. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if BMW didn't mess w/ such things.

I'm an avid FPS gamer so latency is everything! Now my car has lagggg when starting ARRG! HEHE.

It's not a biggie. Just 1/2 sec of your life.

0.5sec x 365d x 50years = 9125 sec = 2.534722222 hours waste for the rest of your life

Hey, those 2 hours are precious for me to just wait around to have my car started

In any case, I notice the same thing. This happened right after I got the 15.1 software upgrade. Even now that I have 17.1 there is no change. I can see that it can be annoying at some points but i'm guessing it might have to do with better starting funtionality of the car

That delay is for the new sensors they installed at the same time - to ensure u r who u say u r. Fingerprint on the wheel, weight sensor in the seat as well as a butt width sensor in the seat, a new retina scan hidden in the mirror, and breathalyzer placed where one of the mics used to be. U can program it to reject gf or significant other if u so wish.

Yes, but nearly as annoying as the "transmission slam" problem!

Our BMW's must be fitted w/ the new Athlon FX 55 to do all that in .5 sec!!

You say that jokingly but I bet this is coming soon.

That's a good point u bring up. If they don't tell us what was changed (even if it was not broke to us) we are now not sure that we do not have some new problem. Or as u say ? WHAT am I crazy it didn?t that before ? I think They should have a list of fixes/changes with each software release (known as Software Release Notes in some disciplines). I?m sure they not only make changes to problems we report, but have their own engineering and QA folks make recommendations we may not even be aware of and make changes accordingly. We could help improve their process if they would let us into the loop to check these things out. I suppose this would be wasted on the run of the mill owner, but some of us care and we could really capture some good info for BMW.
Just my $0.02 worth.
