I'm pretty new here, but have been watching (and learning) from all of you for a while. This forum is fantastic. Beyond the fact that people here seem to find all of the breaking news first, the answer to almost every question I have had has been answered or debated.

One question I have that I can't find info on: I am going to buy an '08 528 (which I plan to order soon to replace my '02 E39) and I am wondering if the standard stereo has been upgraded. I see from some links that there is a new stereo in the car with 16 speakers/825 watts, and some other goodies which are normally a part of the L7. I can't, however, figure out if that stereo described will be standard or optional. There is a 677 L7 option in the ordering guide, but I can't tell if that is a speaker/changer combo, or if it's just the L7 speakers. If the '08 factory stereo has been substantially upgraded, I'm thinking I would pass on the L7.

Anyone have any info? Thanks.

Hi,

The 16 speaker / 825 watt audio is an individual accessory which will be more expensive than L7. I have not found any info about new standard audio. I myself ordered 525iA LCI with L7.

The reason for the post was that in this document it highlights the audio system, without mentioning that it is an option (as opposed to the other options listed in the document that have option codes and/or prices). On top of that, besides 677, I don't see any other stereo upgrade in the ordering guide.

Are you in the States (a useful addition to your profile)? If so, there is only one audio upgrade available here - the L7. The Individual audio upgrade is, at this point, not available in the US market. As for the standard audio, I do not believe that it has been changed or upgraded since the E60 was introduced. Hope this helps.

Well, there has been no information on any change so far...

US gets HiFi as standard
US has option upgrading to Logic7

Europe/ROW(?) gets a basic setup as standard (below HiFi... and terrible quality)
As of the LCI, we can upgrade to either (i) HiFi (ii) Logic7 (iii) Individual

Apart from the addition of 'Individual Audio' there is nothing to indicate that the spec of the other 3 audio systems has changed in any way.

I'm in the States (NYC), it is a big help, and I think I'll order the L7. Thanks.

Go for it...
There is nothing worse than punting on an option at the last minute only to forever wonder if you should have got it.
Cars are only expensive the day you buy them.
