engine on? foot on brake?

there should be something in the owner's manual to override the shift lock.

Yup everything I always do to drive the car....went for a drive got home, went to go out again and nothing. In the manual it shows how to disengage the tranny for towing.

I had the same issue. Once I got it into drive (after much trying and frustration) I brought it to the dealer and they replaced it no questions asked.

Push the clutch towards the right and you should be all set. You might have it on steptronic. I have been in the same boat a few times.

If you have Comfort Access try inserting the key fob in the slot located on the steering column (just like you'd have to do w/o CA). Then, with foot on brake start the car and see if that releases the shift lever.
