I also believe but not confirmed that there are a lot of minor enhancements you get with 550i that aren't published such as higher rate springs, shock valving, brake components, sway bar size, etc. It's been a while when I was able to jump from one car into another, but when I test drove a 545i it seemed to me like night and day from a 530i, not just in power but handling and braking power. I'm sure there are some modded 530i's out there that will run circles around their V8 big brother, but remember to consider the rest of the package...just my 2 cents!

You should draw no conclusions about the 550i and 535i by comparing a 545i to a 530i. The 545i is not a 550i, and a 530i is certainly not a 535i. No offense intended to 530i owners.

I am reevaluating my decision to go with the Euro Delivery 550 versus a Euro Delivery 535. Bearing in mind that the 535 with its twin turbos is rated at 300 horsepower, I am wondering whether the 550 is really worth the extra cash and the lower mpg rating? What are your thoughts?

Difficult decision. I wrestled with the same thing. I think it is a personal decision that you will need to make for your own reasons. Both cars are absolutely outstanding, but they are different. They each appealed to me on different levels. Ultimately, I felt that long-term, I would be happier with the 535i for reasons that others may or may not understand or agree with. Good luck with your agonizing, either choice will give you a wonderful car.

I have an 07 550i and I have driven a 08 535i and i'll take my 550i any day of the week. I like the V8 and despite that the speed is close, I would rather have a V8 on the highway. Also, a V8 will run alot smoother and cooler in the summer months due to no turbos.

I ended up getting the 550i, but I think you are right on the money, either choice is going to be a good one, and you will love the car you end up with.
