When I wrote my review earlier at 1200 miles, while I really enjoy the car overall, I thought that the ride quality was too sporty to the point of being too harsh. Now that the car has been broken in, at 200 miles the ride is noticeably more pliant. The car has retained a wonderful sporty feel without being too firm. I am quite pleased with the ride quality.

Sport suspension and the tires, combined.
Going for standard suspension and 225/50 17" tires for comfort.

They must have repaved all the roads in Chicago.
I concur. The ride of the 550 is excellent, and is a huge upgrade from my E39 540.

Do you think possible its because you are getting accustomed to the feel of the new car over your older e 60? I be if you took a ride in your old car it would feel very soft.
Just a thought...
Im laughing at the comment from BMWSTL whos says they must have repaved all the roads in Chicago.
Well they just finished the Dan Ryan, Working on the Edens, 294, and just about every other road in town.

That would be my suggestion as well..sometimes it's just getting use to a change - at first it seems worse because we are accustomed to what the previous car's ride felt like. Once you get use to the new feel - it might turn out to be better!
