Hello, all. new here. I did search beforehand, but no one seems to have ONLY this code. I was coming off of the highway and the car shut off, coming up with transmission failure, and all-wheel drive/DTSC shut-off messages. I limped it home (with the transmission being in limp-home mode) and hooked up my cheap code reader, finding only P1727. When I restarted my car again, the code was gone, and it shifted ok for about a block before going into limp mode again. Drove again shortly after and it shifted OK and made it home again without problem. I have to drive it to work tonight, and home in the morning. Definitely going to take it easy, but anyone have an idea of what's going on?

I didn't have that code but had similar symptions. A new crank position sensor fixed me up. Does it take longer to start than usual?

I did google the code, but since it seems this code is usually accompanied by other codes, I wasn't sure if this would be an unusual case since it was by itself. It isn't taking any longer to start up than normal, at least I don't think so. Drove it to work and back last night, (20 minutes each way) and it hasn't come back.

So the sensor has not completely went out. I would suggest replacing it before it does. Below site gives lifetime warranty on all parts.

changes the crank shaft sensor. worked for week in my 07 550i with 143k miles. a speeding turtle was moving faster than me but once I made it to 3rd gear I was good. needles to say my car is in the shop getting tranny with 65 k miles on it right now. i had the same issue with my 04 530i at 118k miles. needless to say I learned how to drive on a bad tranny all the way to 258k miles

Until it goes into limp-home mode, the transmission shifts fine. It does have 185,xxx miles. Went off again today on the way home from work, coming up to a light that was changing. sort of split the difference, and accelerated, then braked and it came back on. Stalled again, too. I'm taking it to my indy shop tomorrow.
