2006 550i 76k miles.
So this morning. I went out, started my car, shifted into reverse. Backed up. No issues. When I put the car in drive it would not shift into first. Only second. So then I drove up to the top of the hill, and the car started sporadically going 1,2,1,2,1,2.
Turned the car off. started it again. Drove up to a stop sign. Not a hill. Same thing. Restarted car.
Drove to work no issue 10miles of stop/go. Drove home, no issue. Pulled codes. No codes. No errors. Check control said status OK under everything.
I've started doing some research. and I came across this
SMG won't shift (solved) - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums
However this is on an M3 but exhibits extremely similar symptoms to my issue. It did get cold the other day.
So apparently when its cold.. my car can't make up its mind what gear it wants to go into. When its warm. It works perfectly fine.
So at this point. If I can replace some relays I'm all in. Although I haven't come across any relay thus far (and haven't done much searching I admit).
I would like to point out though, that I hear my SMG pump priming just fine when I hit the unlock button on my car.
If I need to replace the SMG pump. I'm ok with that as well. At this point though I'm at a loss of where to start. I've got no codes, and only symptoms.
If anyone has a direction to point me in, I'm all in.Just let me know and I'll do whatever I can to provide whatever information is asked of me. I'm not scared of a wrench. I'm just confused why my car can't make up its mind in the morning.

As an update, when it seems to happen, it seems I lose gears 1 , 3 , 5. However 2 ,4 , 6 is not an issue.
If I drive 1 mile. The problem goes away and everything is fine.. This is only happening on cold starts.
10/21 I let the car sit idle for a bit before heading to work. No issue.
10/22 I started the car and headed off. Same issues as before.
