My Ride: 2006 525XI silver/grey
I finally have posession of my third BMW and now have a 2006 525XI AWD for the East Coast weather conditions.
I noticed that when I accelerate from a stop position the transmission shifts quickly into second gear.
I noticed that when I accelerate from a stopped position the transmission shifts quickly into second gear.
Is this normal or should I plan to reset the computer some way so new driver characteristics are noted by the computer? My sister drives like an old lady.
There are mod?s to consider as well as I've been reading the forum for the past two months in preparation for Beamer ownership.
The 525 is stock and in mint showroom condition silver grey in color with 57K miles. Can't complain as I paid 21K and have the 100K/7 year warranty still active.
I am also aware of the N52 exhaust lifter issue and spoke to the local stealership which noted they replace them ALL the TIME. Of course the engine has to display the LOUD ticking sound before they will address the FACTORY DESIGN flaw.
I plan to pretty much FORCE them to replace the whole top end as the squeaky wheel gets oiled., I hope.
1. Intake air filter
2. Power booster
3. Affordable Magnaflow exhaust muffler
4. Updates mags and tires versus the stock 138 rims

i assume its an automatic transmission. newer automatics are adaptive, meaning they adapt to the driver of the vehicle. drive like an old lady, the trans shifts sooner and smoother. drive aggressive and it learns to shift later and a little more sportier. you can have the adaptation values reset by the dealer. you can also put the trans into sport mode which will delay upshifts a little longer

Reading the forum notes, disconnecting the battery on this car doesn't sound a like a good idea let alone letting the battery run low/die by it's self.

If you don't like the shift pattern, you can reset it yourself instead of going to the dealer.
1)Push the start key to the on position, don't turn the engine on.
2)Push the gas pedal down all the way in the kickdown position.
3)Count to 25 or 30.
4)Let go, turn the car on, and enjoy your factory reset transmission settings.
