Default 06 525i won't start

Took the car to tyhe body shop to repaint bumper. Watched them drive it into the bay. They called an hour later and said they could not start the car. I went by and also could not get it started.

The ignition recognized the key, but upon turning the key, nothing, not even a starter click. The lights are all on and chimes. I looked through the check control for any errors, nothing. I went ahead and changed the battery thinking it was weak, still nothing.

Any ideas?

With no click it sounds like one of two things:

1. Power is not getting to solenoid to engage starter (loose connection or bad module)
2. Solenoid is bad on starter

Intake manifold needs to be removed to expose solenoid/starter. Not sure if you can probe the solenoid connections from below to see if power is getting to solenoid.

You might also ask body shop if they disconnected battery during repairs (IBS could have been damaged).

They didn't disconnect battery.

They did however have the hood and front bumper removed. Could there be an issue with the security system?
I know these cars have several levels of kill when tampered with.

I have a 2004 so I am not intimately familiar with the push button system.
But I believe if the door locks operate with all doors closed the CAS system is operating properly.

Hello ,
Check the starter - I had same symptoms.I have replaced only the starter's "coal plate" - check the picture. It is easy to check : try to punch the starter with hammer (use a long & strong screwdriver to reach the starter from engine compartiment and hammer on it ) .This should unlock the coals and your car will start...any way this is only a temporary mesure. You have to replace the "coal plate " ( should cost less than 50 usd ) or you can buy a new starter...
I mention also that is no need to take out the intake manifold ( at least on N52 engine) . It is difficult to reach all the screws but not impossible - you need some skillful mechanic...

coalplate.... hmmm are you talking about brushes in the starter motor?

also, replacing starter [on N52 engine] without removing intake manifold? really?
