So I drove an 06 525i auto sport and 06 530i auto sport back to back. Frankly, I could not really feel the extra 40 hp the 06 530i has on the 06 525i. The 525i seemed to have more than adequate power for day to day driving, and pleasently surprised me as the thought the 530i would feel substantially faster. However, the 530i did seem to have slightly better handling, maybe due to the 18" wheels. Anyone else have similiar impressions? Maybe the HP rating on the 06 525i is conservative?

try accelerating uphill with a/c on full. you'll notice the difference there when engine carries more load.
also try gunning the car with 2 or more passengers.
if most of time you are alone as a daily commuter, i agree the extra juice does not make much difference.
