Im having my battery replaced because the 3 previous batteries havent worked properly. My mechanic said i needed to replace it with the exact same battery that was factory installed. The question i have is that, apparently there where 2 different color batteries that bmw installed (black or white).

Does anyone know what exact battery the '05 had?

It depends on how many heavy electrical consumers you have. The AGM battery is installed if thats the case. However, I have a '06 with many comsumers, but the car came originally with a normal battery. I had some problems and I got an AGM battery, which solved the problems. The AGM battery is black.

What batteries were you using ? How long did they work?

Try this...I swapped my OEM for this a month ok and everything is cool (knock on wood)

Pick your correct engine....

A four year old battery may well be in a need of change.

Actually the color of the battery don't matter, it's the amps and of course
the size.

The reason why BMW wants you to the chance the battery at service
is the iDrive and the Progman. They may be messed badly (kind of reset).

Just look at the battery, it will tell you the measures. You'll find it in the trunk.

If you change it yourself, be sure that the voltage don't change while changing,
but that is easier said than done.

It is possible that the batteries are different between vehicle models and years - so asking color and getting a reference from something other than a 05-545 may not help.

I have an 04 - 545i and the battery listed was different than a 05 - 545i. The 04 was a heavier cranking amp battery and very hard to find. I found one from a battery supplier, but have had some issues which I am not sure if they are caused by the battery. I would recommend biting the bullet and get one from BMW.

Secondly, when you put in a new battery and if you had low battery problems, you need to have BMW program the car to tell it you have a new battery. It remembers low battery conditions and will shut down systems in order to make sure the critical engine systems have enough power to run the car. As far as I know, you can not do this through the I-drive menu. Kind of a pain and another $50 or so to have BMW do this.

BTW, my original was white.

Also, not sure of the battery problems you hare having, but it is possible the re-programming could fix it.

Let me know what battery problems you are having as I am getting some flaky stuff still with mine. When it is cold (for CA), down in the 40's and the car is cold for the first 5 minutes, my radio cuts out when I do a low RPM shift.

I replaced mine with a Werker 95R battery. they are the OEM makers for BMW batteries.
Works perfectly.
