I have a 2005 545i sport package. I have noticed another car in the neighborhood that looks exactly the same but her car has 2 small black trim pieces below the tailights where as mine is solid white. What is the difference?

 

Do you mean in the bumper? Like inserts? If so, that's where the red reflectors go nowadays. Back in the day, the reflectors weren't legal in the US, so they filled them in with either black inserts and then later, painted ones... You can buy reflectors online. $24.

Are you talking about the inserts in the lower bumper? If you are, the US cars come with them as black and some would either paint it to match their car color or get the red reflectors put in.

Maybe if you can post some pics, we would know for sure.

Early editions of the E60 came with black inserts... in 2005 they came in matching color of the car and some bought the red inserts for $24 and installed them... aka me! and then in 07 (* Correction 08* ) they all came in red...

 

'08's come in red. My '07 had the painted inserts, and I replaced them with the reflectors.

 

My 07 530i has the painted ones. How hard is it to change them to reflectors?

Piece of cake....use some dental floss, insert on outermost edge of insert and pull towards you. They pop right out, and the new ones pop right in. It's the easiest "mod" you can do.
