I just bought this car and have owned many 3 series and a Z4 but this is my first v8 5 series.
BMW replaced the transmission (see trans thread) and now I get a double bump when it shifts into 4th almost like the converter is locking. I never noticed this with the old transmission, is this normal? Do these have lock-up converters?
Also, when in Sport mode, the transmission doesn't shift into 6th, I've tested it to 90 mph and was turning about 3,500 rpm, can I assume this isn't normal? I nudged it over to "D" and it shifts.
TIA,
Mike

Staying in 5th in Sport is normal. The "double bump" shifting into 4th is not... How old is the replacement transmission? Sounds like you're headed back to the dealer unfortunately.

Thanks for the response, the replacement transmission was a BMW remanufactured unit that's 2 weeks old.

They might not have replaced the torque converter when replacing the transmission? And that was the real problem? I don't know I'm just kinda talking out my ass here...the only way to find out what's going on is to head to the dealer...the sport mode thing is 100% normal though.
