just been reading through this one again, and im overwhelmed at the mpg, i mean the combined cycle of the M5 is 19.3mpg, how comes so low with the 545i, is the 550i worse?

I think getting 450 miles or less is bad, in my 530d remapped

...the combined cycle of the M5 is 19.3mpg,
19.3 miles per imperial gallon. That's 15.4 miles per US gallon.

I think the highway mileage is impressive. At 80 mph, I get about 27.3 consistently on long trips (including highway stops). At 65, it will get 31. At 55, more than that. Around town, every day, with short drives in traffic during my short commute, I get 15-16 -- but that's with fairly aggressive driving/ lead foot just for the fun of it.

For a car this heavy, with this much weight, I think 27 at fast highway speeds is pretty good.

With 27K miles on the odo, the computer (BC) currently says 36.0 avg mph and 23.0 avg mpg. My typical daily round trip is 30 miles, half on freeway and half on city streets. This is what I've consistently seen since purchasing 9 months ago.

Right yeah, gallions are different here in UK, but that 545i is definately eating a lot of fuel.

I disagree: to be a V8 petrol, the 545i is very parsimonious: get and Audi V8, then come back again to say 545i has a horrible consumption!

Theres too many variables that can change the mpg for any driver, everything from style of driving, to tires, to weather conditions..

Somehow for a v8 though, his numbers sound just about right maybe offset of +/- 3 from average..

No one said, this is a honda

Amongst many other questions to the bmw delaer today, one of the tech guys said that a manual will give a better mpg then a auto, who else thinks so?
