Default 04-06 6hp19 & 06+ 6hp19 Differences

I'm trying to buy a replacement transmission for my 04 530i and It seems to be 2 types of 6hp19 transmissions.

I think it goes down to the torque converters, one has 3 mounting bolts and the other 6.
From the pictures I have found, the 04-06 have 3 bolts and the 06+ have 6.

Having a hard time finding a used on that's for the 04-06, I can find plenty of 06+, but no 04-06.
Do you think, I can just reuse my torque converter from my 04??
BMW has a remanufactured transmission for about $3000, but I wanted to keep the cost on the lower end.

Any info will greatly help me out!!

Here's a link that says 04-07 e60 can use the same transmission.
Does anyone know if they are interchangeable??

I'm now beginning to think the differences are the engine m54 vs n52.
It's looking like I need to just buy from bmw or reuse my torque converter or buy a rebuild torque converter.

I bought it for $4500 155K, and didn't want to put $3000 grand on a new transmission, but would rather but $1500 on a used transmission and resell and add that cash for a newer one with lower miles.
What would you do??lol

Question did it work

Were you able to change the 6 bolt to a 3 bolt?

The biggest differences other than the X-drive gearboxes that I'm aware of are the early M-shift (physical linkage from shifter to gearbox) and E-shift (no physical linkage, 'shift by wire'). Valve bodies are different for sure, not sure what else may be different.

Not to second guess your diagnostic skills, but...
Are you absolutely SURE that you need a new tranny? What are the symptoms? Are you getting any codes? Which ones?

Just trying to save you some $$$. My 06 330i had a harsh clunk shift when the car would shift from 2 to 1 near a complete stop. This progressed to clunky shifts around town. Then finally, I would get a tranny error and limp mode when getting on the freeway briskly or even commanding a downshift via high throttle pressure.
The tranny was a complete mess.
I replaced ALL of the solenoids on the mechatronic unit (valve body) and my transmission was literally like new again. As a side benefit the car shifted much quicker between Park, Reverse, and Drive. I didn't even realize how delayed it was until I replaced the solenoids.

This was at 130k miles. The actual tranny is quite stout. The solenoids, not so much.

Solenoids are a DIY job if you are so inclined. Cost me about $550 for all new ones. Tell us more to see if you can avoid replacing the whole tranny.

Default I need a new trans for my 04 530i msport, burnt up my clutch packs.

I want to put in the 06 is that shft by wire or analog? Is there any n54 drive by wire trans i can fit even if i have to change some parts. The shop is only finding 04's with 165k+ my car just now hit 100k miles. Definitely dont want a higher mileage trans. And can i do an xdrive delete into a rwd only car?

no you cannot, and lol posting on 6 year old threads is not going to net you the results you are hoping, just flooding the forum at this point.
