Ok, I know my 528i is yearning to go to pasture I love her but she is taking me to the poor house. When I got her running and she runs strong now, I said anything over 400.00 and she has to go. Well the tranny is hiccuping all over the place. Maybe the tranny and diff needs to be changed but I feel it's time.

Now I love the e39. Dare I say more than the e60 I love the smooth lines and the beautiful curves. of the car. I have been dying for another e39. Well I found one at local dealership and haggled down the price. It's a 85k miles and checked out on carfax and my ppi. Plus I got a 30 day warranty.

For those that own a 540i, chime in and tell me what I am getting into. Only paid 14.5 for the car (cash) but can still get out of the deal if need too.

Anyone have this model. It didn't have the Navi or the Sport seats. It has comfort seats and Sport pakage. I thought the sport seats came with the sport package. Well I pick up the car in about a week. the weird part is that it is close to the same color as my e60. Blue/Grey.

I was hoping for Navi but seller said can cause problems. Anyone ever heard that? Don't have pix now but will soon.

Did you really have 225,560 miles on your '97 E39?

So how many miles do you have on your current '05 530i?

The 540i E39 will be more expensive to own than you current E60,
just fix it.

e60 is still under factory with 44k. e39 will be daily. I may just keep it for about a year and sell. Starting to have buyers remorse.

do you really need two cars? i would just drive the e60 around ...rather than spending 14.5 cash on an e39...nothing on the car...its a beautiful car but its 14.5 car just there. To me thats alot of cash.

That's great! Congratulations! 85k miles is barely anything. I had an I6 so I can't comment on the engine, but I did not have any major issues with the car through my ownership. She only had 160k+ miles when I gave her up...

Post some pics of your 540i... Here's my old one...

One word niklesil, make sure that it does not have that V8 engine bug I think that was one of those years 14.5 seems alittle much to me I would have gotten a 3 for the daily commute but that's just me

nikasil lining was only used on the M60B30 and B40 engines in the e34. The M62 used alusil - so no issue there.

That said, if a M60 in a e34 still has good compression, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm debating whether or not to sell my E39 for the same reasons you pointed out, in addition to being more connected to the car. The E60 is an amazing car, but driving the two back to back this weekend, I have the same feeling as I had back in 04 when deciding on a 5-series; the driving experience with the E60 is more distant and filtered, whereas with the E39, you feel like you're part of the car. Maybe I'm getting older and need the luxo-crap now
