This is probably a stupid thread but I really do not like how my E39 drives. I just purchased a black manual 2000 528i sport from the original owner, but I do not like how it drives in comparison to my e36. Yes, it looks really good with the style 5 wheels and M steering wheel, but the driving experience is just not there. It is very planted and comfortable, but the shift throws are extremely long and inaccurate. The clutch has almost no feedback, and is very vague, and the whole experience is just very average. The gas pedal is extremely firm, and requires work to press, and the car revs so slow and the pedal has horrible response. I cannot even rev match when downshifting because of how laggy and slow the PHYSICALLY CONNECTED throttle pedal is. Is there so,mething wrong with my car, or do I just like sportiness of the e36?

Unlike the present generation, the differences between the 3-Series and 5-Series were markedly different back then. Weight and size were one of the biggest differences. The E39 simply wasn't as nimble as it's 3-Series cousins.
I had a 1997 528i with a stick and loved the car until a tree fell on it one day while I was driving to work. I was glad I had that heft because it probably helped save my life. I ended up with my present E60, also a stick, and didn't like it as much at first, but learned to appreciate it more as time went on. I've had it for 12 years now and it's still a dream to drive.
Give it some time. It will likely grow on you. The E39 was an awesome car. Welcome to the forum!
