Default 535d poor key fob distance

Hey guys, right from day 1, both my key fobs have had very poor distance problems when trying to lock and unlock the door, I almost have to be right next to the car before they operate.

Has anyone else experienced the same, any ideas of a likely cause?
I don't think it's the fob batteries, it's been like it for 3 years.

P.s it's a 2006 535d

I hear your pain - even with fresh batteries the range of BMWs key fobs is very short. My '13 535xDrive (Comfort Access) is better but not like GM / Ford / Honda etc that work even if you are in another city;-)

That's unfortunate. Maybe an antenna got disconnected at some point?

I know it sounds silly - but touch the end of the key (metal part) to your neck and try to lock/unlock and the distance is greatly improved.
