Winsdcreen Wash filter - How do I get at it?
#1
Hi all, great forum by the way.
I have a RHD 520i E60 and my windscreen wash has severely lost it's mojo. Nothing but a little dribble now. I've disconnected the feeds to the nozzles to make sure it wasn't them that was blocked and the dribble is the same from the pipes.
This link showed how to get at the windscreen wash tank (and filter) on a E38, do any of you helpfull forumites know how to get at the tank on an E60?
Thanks in advance
Fraz

From memory front wheel removal and wheel arch liner. At the worst case you would need to remove the front bumper.

Hi,
The same thing has happened to my 520i E60..... i know this sounds like im being thick, but is the wheel arch liner all you need to remove? Is it that straight forward?
Thanks in advance
Bobby

The nozzles may be clogged .. try to use a shot of compressed air from something like PC bottled air to blow them clean.
Thanks

Cleaning the filter for windscreen washer for BMW 530d (E60-E61) is easy. It should take under an hour to do.
The procedure is as follow:
1. The filter is attached to a rubber seal that is locked to the screen washer tank. The pump is attached to the same rubber seal but sits outside the tank. The tank is located at the front, at the passenger side between the front tyre and the pumper.
2. Jack the car up and remove the front tyre.
3. Now unsecure the front part of the wheel arch lining by remove about 8 bolts (wheel arch lining is made of one peace that cover the entire wheel arch so all you need is to undo the front section).
4. Pull the lining back and tie it to the wheel spring.
5. The tank now is exposed. Prise the pump upward to disengage it from the rubber seal, using flat head screwdriver.
6. Prise the rubber seal upward with the flat head screwdriver. You should have the rubber seal with the filter attached to it.
7. Separate the filter from the seal. Clean the seal with a jet of water (kitchen sink).
8. To refit, attach the filter to the rubber seal and push into the tank (make sure it locks in place).
9. Fitting the pump is easier if we disconnect the power supply from the pump (the connection has been lock to the pump with small leaver, so you need to press the leaver to unlock it.
10. Push the pump into the rubber seal and secure it to the body of the tank. Connect power supply.
11. Fill with water and test.
12. Re-fix the arch lining and the wheel.
