Just had a look and NO I don't have that window in my glovebox. But atleast I now know where its supposed to go. I'll try and look for the place again when I'm trying to retrofit my footwell lights.

Bruce,
I have just spent an afternoon trying to hard-wire my road angel to the fuse box behind the glovebox on my uk 2004 525d.
I found that socket. It lives on the back of a square door to the right & below of the plughole for the torch.
I unpluged the cover and saw the red light inside (made me jump). :-))
If you remove the glovebox lid, stick your head in the pass footwell and look up near the tunnel.
ATB Jeff.

So is it visible with the glovebox installed or are your directions of looking related to when the glovebox is removed? Also any clues about this part? http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=37504&hl=

Nick you really are the man!!
It think you are right and your car seems to be as close to mine as possible. Because previous posters cars have had this in different locations to mine. But the reason I couldn't work it out is because I don't have that door (blanking plate) there. Instead I simply have a square hole in that spot, which ofcourse gets covered by the glovebox door. It could be that when BMW took apart the glovebox to install my Aux Retrofit they forgot to put that piece back. It also explains why I couldn't figure out where that part clips in because that plate itself is not there.
Is there a part number for that plastic door? Is it 26 BRACKET 51167121920
