Yah I dont get it either.. its not like M5 bumper being retrofitted on normal 5series. So why is Mtech designed specially for 5series by BMW need cutting of plastic?

Lets put it this way, it's the way the bumper was designed and the curves so the plastic trims needs to be cut not the bumper, so the plastic trim will fit the bumper correctly and it's not a lot of cutting you will understand when you install the kit, its not big deal.

There are 2 diff. plastic trim set due to 2 diff design.

If your car don't have M-Tech kit the trim will match the std. bumpers you have the option to buy the trim that will fit M-Tech bumpers and simply replace it or cut the original plastic trim to fit the M-Tech bumper curves. AFAIK those plastic trims that M-Tech specific are not that expensive but to get the best price will be via mail order but you'll get the handicap of shipping cost due to oversize.

Im about to do this and the black plastic foam "shock absorber" on the front bumper bar seems to be different too. A few people have mentioned they removed it to fit the front Mtech bumper.

the Mtech versions which do not come with the Kit are

51 11 7 896 589 and 51 11 7 896 590 cost about 11 GBP each.

it rather have this incase of any little bumps etc.

ive not done an exhaustive search but remember a few comments

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=108103

highlights some issue if you search bumper and foam you will see a few more

Im sure maybe it fits, if you cut it a bit ? but the fact is there are two separate parts sets
one for standard SE car, and a different ones for M tech im looking for a easy install its the little things that eat up hours work !

i will photograph both if i get time.

Id be interested to hear from anyone thats done actually done this kit as this is next weekends work UK weather and paintshop permitting.

my view
At 350 pounds plus painting for an Mtech front cover ive chosen to invest 20 pounds so if some prat slowly reverses int the car it wont crack the bumper.

I remember there were some Ford sierras in the eighties that could be totaled by a 5 mph hit on the bumper as it got to the chassis leg !

I installed it without removing the foam, at first it seems that it will not fit but it did fit....you need 2 people to hold the bumper in place and set in some screws to secure it in place. Its a snuggle fit. You need it to absorb minor impact.
