Unless you get the xtra remote display that you can mount on the dash near the fuel gauge.
That is what i wanted to do, but I wanted to mount it on the windshield, can I do that?

I have mounted my V1 just to the right of the rearview mirror where it does not interfere with either the mirror or the visor. And the unit has direct sightline out the front and back. I have Head Up display so I don't have the shaded area at the top of my windsheild which may interfere with the aquisition of the front signal if the unit is mounted too high.

The remote display when plugged in, makes all the lights in the main display go out so that police or other drivers do you see that your V1 has a "bogey". The lights come from the remote display only. The sound still comes from the main unit but there is also a remote audio unit sold but I didnt need that.

So the main unit only serves to pick up radar and is the volume control for the V1. Everything else happens on the remote display that can be mounted where it is below the sight line of other vehicles.

There are many posts on this. The best wiring scheme is to get your power near the rear view mirror in that compartment that holds the accessory lights.

There are detailed instructions on which wire to use so it shuts down with the car.

Try this

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...&#entry5525

Basically you are opening the upper console area where you would go to replace a light bulb near your rear view mirror.

I did this whole thing myself in about 30 minutes. I advize that you put some clear tape over the tip of your screwdriver so you don't soil your headliner when doing this. The keys to this whole thing are having enought light to properly find the wire with the colors indicated in the instructions. The blue V1 part is really made for a thicker wire so it doesn't always cut thru the insulation on the thin wire. Make sure the wire is manually trimmed of insulation and push the metal portion of the wire into the blue clip. Test to make sure you have power before your push everything back together. And jiggle the wire connection to enuse its not an intermittant connection too.

Its really very simple and you will have power that shuts off and on when you want it to. And its been used by mamy members so its proven to be a good source of power for the V1. Doesn't affect the cars computer or the air bag system. Which is important.

If you are putting in the remote near the dash you need to run wires along the windsheild. and down and there are detailed instructions for that too.
