So winter is right around the corner and i decided to put the oem wheels on early because its been so nice out lately. this year i decided to paint them gunmetal..
I went with Duplicolor Gunmetal Wheel Spray Paint can. i wasnt expect much for only using spray paint cans, but i gotta say they look amazing. the car still turns heads even with oemrims. all i spent was about $45 on the primer, paint, clear, and sand paint.
Sorry for the picture quality. i took the pics from my iPhone and will pull out the camera tomorrow and take some real pictures.
this is what i got from advance auto: 2 of each.

1. clean the rims and try to take off all the brake dusk you can. dont worry if can get all of it off.
2. take 400 grit sandpaper and and sand off the clear on the rims. then clean the rims very well.
3. with painters tape, mask the tire.
4. spray 3 light coats of primer and wait 1 hour before apply the Duplicolor paint.

5. spray 3 light coats of Dupicolor paint ten minutes apart and wait one hour before applying the Clear.

(like i said before. this paint is really nice. you can see the metallic really well in the sun.)
6. spray 3 med coats of clear ten minutes apart. i let the wheels dry overnight before mounting them. (the directions say you can handle them after 3 hours.)

7. this is how they looked the next morning before i went to work:

I'm planning to polish the rims tomorrow so they get more protection in the winter.

pics of the car with wheels on.
OVERALL... great product, highly recommend it..more pictures tomorrow with the real camera!!!!!

do you think applying automotive bog to cover the rashes prior to painting would work? i am thinking of painting my own set but it badly has rahes.
i was gonna fill the cracks.. but ireally didnt care because i know they are only winter rims..if iwould do it again or repaint them then i would get some type of puddy to fill the cracks and sratches.. i remember seeing this grey puddy at advance auto that hardens to the strength of metal. you can sand it..i for whats the name if. or you can always use bondo. but i think that puddy im talking about would be stronger.. maybe when i take them off this spring ill fix the imperfection and repaint them.
