What's up Curtis,

I didnt try that method, but i started having those problems and I actually replaced both my front control arms. that solved everything.

I also have the steering wheel knock sound, only ever noticable at low speeds over small bumps and when parking.
I notice it 9 times out of 10 when driving over a little raised lip of conrete into my drive way, really annoying
and would love an 'easy' fix fo it, car is out of warranty but has an aftermarket warranty.

I have the same problem - steering knocks when going over small bumps or over raised concrete lips. I have had my 2004 530 since Nov/08 and it's always been like this. Overall, the ride seems bumpy and not comfortable.
What's the fix with the WD40?

You can remove, or at least bend down, the bottom panel under then steering wheel and spray WD-40 onto the link that couples two shafts. That sometimes will get rid of the knock

What kind of knock is this? Do you hear it in the car or out?

The knock is felt more than heard. You can feel the knock run up the steering wheel and into your hands.
