hi guys,

quick question i have a D500 - i have the power cable but it has not come with any fibre cables...

can i remove the fibre cables from the CDC and plug these straight into the D500?

Or will i have to buy one of these: http://shop.dension.com/en/gw500-optical-kit

thanks

If you don't have the cd changer you will probably need at least one set of fiber optic (FO) cables unless you have the cannon plug that plugs into the d500. I didn't have a cd changer but was able to tap into my FO line in the glove box which had a splice connector already on it (the FO cable will give you room to work). I separated the line and added the D500 to the loop. If the blue light on the D500 flashes and goes out check your FO lines and swap them. Also if you don't have a cd changer with iPod update you will need to have it programmed. It coast me $70 at local Indy shop. Don't let anyone tell you they can't program it because Audio Logic has setting for Dension. FYI my install was on 05 545i.

Check audiotoys.com they may have the fiber optic for less. Bought my D500 for less than $500 and came with programmer for car which didn't work for me.

went to a local installer

they said i do the following:

Remove the Cd Changer and remove the optic cables \ power..

I take the optic cables out of the stock connector and install these into a connector that fits the D500 (like a converter)

POwer up using the other cable - and thats it..

I don't plan on using the CDchanger - so i dont need to do anything more..

Just trying to figure out how to remove the Cd changer - according to the first post i need to take out the entire glove box - im thinking this mean the glove box cover? the thing that opens and closes/

Hi All,

i am seeing 2 issues, can someone please confirm if this is normal?

1: When i switch off the car off and go back to it..it looses the memory and i am not able to drill back the folders..so i have to go back to files and drill down the folders again..i am finding this rather annoying..

2: Some times, it does not automatically play the dension, even though this was on when i switched off the car - it goes to the radio

Dension Emailed me this

Unplugging the fiber leads from the CD Changer and plugging them directly into the Gateway 500 may result in some of the devices on the optical ring not working - that is, all devices that come after the CD Changer. If you experience problems like something is not working, or being unrecognized, this is most likely due to the Gateway not being the last device on the ring.

So if you experience these problems, then you should install the Gateway directly behind the Head Unit - for this, you will need to order an optical kit here: Optical connection kit for Gateway 500 series

If you have any further questions, please, get back to us.

I have removed the changer completely from the car..

they said i need to connect it correctly and this may fix my issues?

Live chat: one cable, not 2, you connect one FOT slot (the car side) normally, to the optical ring, to the last place, and the other FOT slot (cdc side) you loop to itself with a single optical cable

Been looking forward to giving this a try. The only thing I donīt completely follow is how I am using the Dension power harness. Does anyone have any visuals of how they connected this.

You have to tap into the cd changer power source. Mine did not have a changer but the wires are there, both power and fiber optics. If you don't have the cd changer installed you will most likely have to have the system programmed. The stealership will tell you it may not work and quote you $200 plus to update (audio logic has a section on Denison). Take it to your local Indy, mine charged me less than $100 to update the system.
