just trying to get everything in place before tackling this retrofit

im going from basic mask unit to pro sat nav(no existing sat nav)

the only thing that has me stumped is the GPS antennae. reading through various posts it has been suggested to forget about removing sharking and replacing antenna gps antennae and routing a new gps cable to the shark fin and just get an older E38/39 gps antennae and hide it somewhere under the dash.

this sounds fine but then reading this http://www.soscl.co.uk/e60navretro.pdf document suggests otherwise

page 9 says only for vehicles without SA606(which i guess is business sat nav) you must replace the existing antennae with a GPS antennae
also says that if car has telephone in place already that the existing cable must be replaced by the GPS antenna cable. im assuming this means your bluetooth phone kit which i think is routed through the car radio and connected to the gps antennae. it doesnt mention any other connections to the anntenna however,on the back of ccc module there are 2 connections for aerials one is the gps and the other i assume is normal am/fm?

has anybody with bluetooth phone set up tackled this retrofit and how did they handle this aspect

the bluetooth phone has voice/microphone in place and is activated through steering wheel, my idrive only has menu button, not menu/voice button. does this need to be replaced with 2 button one and do any additional cables need to routed the the idrive controller?

I have also retrofitted the Pro Navigation into my car which had the basic mask unit.

I don't however have the bluetooth but I am in the middle of retrofitting it.

I can confirm i did not put my GPS aerial in the sharkfin because i wanted to get my navigation working, and was planning to put it in the shark fin at a later date so I placed mine in the centre speaker above the CCC navigation unit as i don't have Logic 7 sound system this speaker is not there, and it works perfect.

But I am now retrofitting the bluetooth and snap in adapter that will need to connect to the shark fin for GSM phone signal so I have bought the sharkfin aerial with GPS and GSM.

I think BMW mean if you have phone prep which you do, you will have the GSM phone aerial only and that will have to be replaced with the GSM / GPS shark fin aerial.

but you could leave it and place the GPS in your front centre if you don't have Logic 7.

No you do not need to have the 2 button for the iDrive it will work with the menu only button, but you will only be able to activate voice control from the steering wheel button, it uses the same wiring you have now so no need to change that.

When doing this retro fit you must change your iDrive unit for the high version though.

Hope this helps.

thanks for reply

basically if im reading correctly i can leave shark fin alone and connect existing antennae on mask unit into the non gps aerial input on new ccc unit and locate the new gps aerial under dashboard somewhere using gps input on the new ccc model

Hello, I too have a bluetooth phone prepd 2004 (October) UK E60 and am looking to retrofit Professional Sat Nav. I currently have no navigation and menu only button. I am just about to purchase the High Idrive controller, 8.8 inch screen, and CCC, and GPS antenna. I was going to buy these parts from a scrapped 06 plate, could you please let me know if I need anything else except the recoding and the disc.
Thanks in advance

You will need the fan cable and possibly the fan that goes on the back of the CCC.
Also a new centre dash trim in place of the storage hole you have at the moment this will have to be replaced and will be specific to your car trim colour so i would get that from your local BMW dealer.

then you should be all set.

Overdue update. I received a CCC, 8.8 inch screen and Idrive controller from seller. However the I drive controller is the low version according to part number (6 944 884). The seller insisted it would work as it came from a complete working car. I had it fitted, and specialist tried to code, and had errors with the Idrive controller, upshot is it doesnt work properly.
Can anyone help point me in the direction of the correct high I-drive controller part number, as the parts guy at local BMW dealership isnt sure. He suggested it *could* be 65 83 6 941 801 or 65 82 6 963 051. Does any one know if one or both or completely different one will work?

For anyone still interested, I bought the 65 83 6 941 801 part number and fitted last weekend. All I Drive functions, navigation and the controller work fine. Im taking the car to be coded tomorrow as I fitted an AUX retrofit kit at the same time.
