Remote what?

There's miles of wires and thousands of connections in any E60, and the electrics also have changed significantly at least twice - in early 2004 and late '05. Give us some more details of what you are trying to do - preferably in ONE thread, not three - and someone may be able to help.

Im sorry Dlevi,

Thanks for your reply, im trying to connect my alpine prohub since im using 3 amps and going active i can always tap the power and remote from the same place but first i need to find where i can tap in to the power and remote wires on the car. Then i can always just ground everything to the chasis, finally in order to get my navigation in i will need to tap in to the speedometer wire?

If anyone can help me with any of the 3-4 inquiries i would appreciate it.

OK - one thing at a time. Assume I'm ignorant about everything - not difficult...

So:

0. What year and model is the car? There are sometimes significant differences between one model (and/or MY) and the next
1. What is an Alpine prohub? ICE? Integrated ICE + nav? Something else?
2. Remote - for what? The source unit? Therefore just a power supply? Or are you looking for a way of connecting to something else? A switched live to switch on amps "remotely" when car is turned on? Or?
3. What current draw would you expect to have? If very high (several hundreds W/channel), then it may be easier to go back to the battery and get a feed directly from there.
4. Where in the car do you want to locate the components - physically. Under the front seats? In the boot (trunk)? In the front console?
5. Not sure that what "speedo" wire would be suitable - since I have no idea what input type the nav requires to provide dead reckoning (one pulse per wheel revolution? one every ten?). Plus, there would be steering input needed as well for direction, would there not? (and BTW this is the place where I feel least competent to offer advice)

RJ,
Please use cigarette lighter supply as your remote wire. Ignition on, amp on. Otherwise, amp will be on all the time whenever car CCC is awake. This will drain your battery quickly, and you'll receive "High Battery Drained" message very often, and increase your chance to have heart surgery

Thank you all for your help, so the remote wire is behind the rear cigarette lighter? any particular color attached to this wire, i can tap in to.

My car is a 2007 525i, the alpine vhub pro is a factory integration sytem, i can hook up navigation, processors, various amps, ipod, tvs, rear camera everything in to the hub with just an ainet plug makes everything extremely easy. Since im running various amplifiers and redoing my components and adding alpine navigation there are three things i need to know as mentioned

1. red power wire from the vhub, where can i tap in to it?
2. The remote to turn on the amps and all components (amps, processors) which according to my530I is the cig lighter.
3. the speedometer wire which will be necessary for when i add my alpine navigation.

Everything else is just plug and play, i beleive ground can go to chasis.

Anyone else with input, i greatly appreciate it.

thank you all and to you to DLevi all your input is helpful

I'm using a 2006 version of the wiring diagram, so things may be different in your car, though AFAIK the color coding should not have changed. If anyone has a 2007 WDS, please correct me!

1. A good supply wire is the Red/Green tracer 4 mm2 from fuse 80 - you should find it going into the amp at the rear (pin 10); there's plenty of other supplies available, but this is the most "correct" one - however it may be inconveniently placed if you are installing the hub at the front of the car.

2. Most audio components seem to be turned on/off using MOST signals, so the cig lighter is probably a good bet. The wire should be a Green/White tracer, connected to Fuse 87 in the back

3. For the speed, the nearest I could find - but no guarantee - is a "left wheel speed" signal wire that is connected to the speed input of many things (stability control, radio volume, etc.) - this is a Red/Brown tracer wire, which is connected to the car access system module pin 31. The CAS is located to the left of the steering wheel (see this thread for instructions/photographs/location)

HTH. Good luck.

Oh, if you use the thread I referred to above, bear in mind that Mike's car is RHD, so all will be mirrored in your car.

Let us know what happens!
