Well, I finally got my rear-center console trim piece; with 12V outlets only. To my surprise, the piece came with the plugs, so all I had to do is unplug the wires from the stock piece and plug them back into the replacement. It's interesting to note that the backing plate of the trim piece has blanks for the headphone jack module and the seat heater buttons, and one other button blank between the seat heater buttons.

For sure, it's a nice heavyweight piece that's not nearly as flimsy looking (or feeling) as what was put in there from the factory

Piece of cake...

It makes me wonder why BMWAG didn't offer this trim from the get go? Could it have been a supply chain issue, with not enough parts in the pipeline? Was it a deliberate plan to introduce the nicer trim either as a mid-year or 2nd year value-add? hmmm....

Anyway, the unsightly beige plastic piece is gone.

Oh, and to confirm, the P/N is 51 16 7 141 077

I'm interested in this too.. I don't use the storage and would rather have the ciglighter outlets with the wood!!

Please keep us updated.

The photos are pretty self-explanatory but here are the official instructions on removing this 'insert' from BMW TIS anyway:

Special tool required (credit card maybe?):

Removal of insert

I have the poplar wood trim piece for my E60, which has the two auxiliary power outlets (not cigarette lighters) and no rear seat heat switches.

I would appreciate instructions on how to remove the OEM trim piece without damaging the surrounding trim. The new wood trim piece appears to snap in place once the OEM trim piece is removed. Any ideas?

Oops! I just read Rudy's post with the two pdf files. I think I understand how to do it. I'll give it a try and let you know. Thanks, Rudy!
