Has anyone hard-wired a Passport 8500 X50 into their E60? I'm assuming it wouldn't be all that different from the instructions and pics Don Juan posted.
thanks

I've done the 8500, and I posted some pictures of it up on that thread. Should be the same as the x50 (I called escort, and they said they were basically the same).

It's been working like a champ.

Thanks JK...I just saw the pics you posted. When I view the hard-wire kit (online)from Escort it looks like a lot of extra wire and an additional small unit...does that sound right? Also, I assume the wiring plugs into the detector via the phone-jack type clip? If not, how do you quickly remove the detector for stealth purposes?

The kit includes two ways of wiring up the detector, so it'll make sense when you get the kit. If you get stuck, send me a personal email and I'll give you my phone number and walk you through it.

James, thanks for the offer...I'll probably need it. How much did you follow Don Juan's instructions?
thanks

Tried Don Juan's method, but chickened out after I opened it up. Called my dealer and they said not to do it from the panel above mirror like on previous E39's, because some wires we close to 12v but some we slightly less and some would see a slight draw as a fault. They said to go to the fuse box under the steering column and come up through the trim on the A pillar, minding that there is an airbag in the pillar. I had someone do it that way and it worked.

I had no problems wiring above the rear view mirror. I followed Don's instructions, and only needed to 'think it through' on picking the right wire (had to examine his picture really closely). I can help you through that part.

Just remember NOT to unplug the darn passenger airbag light and turn on the car. I'm tryign to save you the $100 mistake I made by doing that.

Very simple.
