I have hard-wired my Escort Passport 8500 X50 today with lotsa help from Don-Juan's radar detector hard-wire thread.

Can you post some pics of the final install? How do you like the X50? I'm trying to decide between X50, beltronics, K40, or V1....

Go to radardetector dot net to find a comprehensive discussion of these detector choices by a group devoted to a similar extent as this one.

Edit No. 1:

FWIW, I have an X50 that I wired in by taking a 4-wire RJ-11 cable and feeding under the headliner edge from the point on my windshield where I hang the detector, around and under the dash, and finally to the female-to-female connector that joins my cable to the stock lighter plug. I plug that into the lighter outlet just head of my shifter and I restrain the extra cable in the passenger footwell net.

Edit No. 2:

I'm happy with my detector performance so far. Plenty of warning for each of my several LEO encounters since buying it.
