"Particle Filter Failure"
Hi Guys,
Last week I had "PARTICLE FILTER FAILURE" diplayed on my dash. I've studied what this part is, taken the car for a long spin to unclog - no change. A couple of guys have removed it and attemtped to clean and reuse it successfully.
The car runs fine '06 E60 530d - anyone have this problem before - does my system have to be just reset? My car is out of warranty.

Well it's been only week since I washed it and about 200kms, but there haven't been any problems. The car pulls stronger than ever.
My DPF was so clogged, that even a "forced" regeneration didn't start after a dealer visit. After a wash, the regeneration started immediately when the coolant temp got warm enough!
Since you have a 2006 car, I think your DPF locates right after the turbo and it's integrated in the same can with the catalytic converter. It is a bit trickier to remove than mine, but still doable.

Brought the monster to the dealer - they forced a regeneration and told me to drive it for 25 miles before parking it up - It worked - and mpg has improved by about 15%. Cost me ?85. Supposedly the dpf lasts 180,000 miles. I'll clean it out before and if I reach this mileage. IT'S GREAT TO HAVE MY MACHINE AT 100%
Just to keep you all posted - The filter failure came back - I updated the idrive software and reprogrammed the car - Gone for good now. I hope. I recommend updating the idrive software to anyone who has a 2007 model or older - its so quicker and mine got a silver display colour scheme to suit my car interior and exterior.
I hope it's not a sin to love a car!
