My Ride: '05 545i SMG, 35% Tint, LED Angel Eyes
I was doing this very thing myself with another forum buddy of mine and without Allen's encouragement and knowledge, I could not have moved forward. I am looking forward to next weekend to finish this up.

It will be easier to break loose the alternator by loosely leaving the upper alternator bolt in, sticking a pry bar in the orange circle, removing the lower bolt, and prying the alternator sideways until it is free. Once free, remove upper bolt and pull alternator forward.
