On my journey to copy everything I like, but refuse to pay retail for on the 08+ E60's, I have acquired many random parts. Most exiting was the complete set of brushed aluminum trim from a junked 2008 M5 (RIP). I had to buy the buttons on either side of the ashtray to match the specific features in my car - and it is getting closer to install time. Since I will be keeping the 550 longer than originally intended, I am putting the HUD back in soon - and while the dash is out I will be making the change to a LCI center console. I bought the cage that houses the CCC and IHKA, I just picked up a set of modules that will now control the buttons in the dash including all new plugs, wiring and connectors. I have studied the WDS diagram for the LCI's and am almost ready to change the way I interface with the LIN-bus.
I just wanted to know if anyone here has undergone this project before to see if there is any practical advice aside from correct wiring and coding. If this goes well, the next project will be to find an LCI transmission to match the new style electronic shifter I have sitting in my parts bin.
Thanks in advance for any and all input!

It has been done and confirmed to work OK. You need a button module as well. Most problematic is finding the latest wiring diagrams for the LCI. BMW stopped doing the WDS dvds.

So far I have both buttons and:
61319183233 - ECU for switch in center console
61319138969 - Electronic driver circuit, cent. console
I ordered the connectors, socket terminals and wire. I made all of the pig-tail harnesses for each component I have purchased so far - and as you said, WDS is not easy to hunt down.
