Stream,

Ok so did you have to bring your car in for CIP programming to recognize the aux input that you installed ? I don't know of any other way around this. I suppose there is no charge if CIP update was going to be done for any number of warranty reasons ??

I am very handy and would like to do this... 2 Dealers quoted $450 for this (stevens creek and fremont BMW), which means the dealer will not be doing this.

I didn't install the aux input myself--I did the hardwire of the Monster power adapter & running the mini stereo cable from the glove box to the center armrest.

They need to program the car to recognize the aux input, but not necessarily upgrade the CIP version. I paid $140 labor (around an hour) + $64 part (after 10% BMWCCA discount!) at Peter Pan.

Thanks for the article! I printed the article and brought to my dealer to do the install. Works and looks great. I just purchased one of their remaining 2005 545i (appears to be identical car to yours) and had them include the install as part of the deal. Now I don't miss my 330i (had the ipod connection kit) as much.

I'll jump in for stream You will not be able to view or control your ipod via the I-drive. You'll have an "AUX" option that is all.

To add to Busta's comments, the only thing you can control is the volume (with the steering wheel buttons or control on dash). I use the Griffin remote, or take the iPod out of the center arm rest to control it.
