Hi,

I'm planning to put in a removable 7in monitor at the back of the centre console for the back seats.
I need to do 2 things:

a) Power it. It takes 12v, so all i need to do is find a suitable 12v source in the car. I dont have the dual cigarette sockets in the back - is the wiring in place for those anyway? If not, whats the easiest way to route the cable - Wherever it comes from, i was planning to drill a hole in the back of the cubby hole in the centre. How is this removed?

Also, for the PS2 in the floor of the boot, how do I get power to this? is the best way to solder leads onto the back of the cig. socket in the boot?

b) Video / controller. This is going to come from a PS2, which I will put under the floor of the touring boot, in between the slatty things. What is the easiest way for me to get the video cable to the centre console? I was planning to do the controler extensions with Ethernet cable. Will this work reliably for composite video and stereo audio to the monitor?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Ok - Going to go for it this weekend.

I am going to take the plastic pan out of the right hand side of the touring boot. Here I will mount the inverter. I have pulled the snap on connector off the cigarette lighter that backs into the void to the right of the boot. I have got a couple of spade connectors to go in here.

I am going to place the PS2 under the boot floor - directly under if it will fit. If not, It will have to go into the void where the spare wheel would live. From there, I need to get the AV leads and the 12v power for the monitor to the other side of the tunnel thing, and into the back of the center console, so i can poke it out of the cubby hole under the rear vents. I will then use a bracket, and bolt this to the cubby hole, underneath the rubber floor, so if i remove it, theres no lasting damage.

I am confident on most of it, apart from the ciggy socket and the tunnel. I am assuming that i can unplug the socket, put the spades straight in, and just remove it whenever it goes for a service? Also, what is the best way to feed something under the tunnel?

Thanks
Ben

OK - PS2 and inverter are in and working.

One large problem now - power to the monitor. The only cut cable that was thin that I could find at Maplins was burgular alarm cable - rated at 1A. Fair enough - monitor is 9w at 12v - less than 1 amp.

So i hooked it all up - had to run the cable under front seat and back up side of C.Console for neatness. When I plug the monitor in, there is no power. Sometimes it will briefly come on, but then go off again v. quickly. Are there any power sources near to the rear of the c.console than the one in the trunk? I would use the one in the front, but getting the wire there is a pain, and I use it for my cellphone charger. Are there any other power sources?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi

Just read your topic.

The only power source in the centre console that you can use is from the front lighter socket.
It's not too bad getting the wires to the back of the centre console. The only thing to remember is that the socket power only works in ignition position 2 !!!

If you want to have a power feed that will work in Terminal R position, you'll have to run a cable from the trunk to the centre console which ain't easy. Also, if the hifi is on with the ignition off, at some point, you'll get a warning message telling you to switch off because of battery drain. If you continue, the car will automatically disengage the power to the circuits in order to preserve power for starting the car - (part of the CAS systems etc..)

Do you have a telephone fitted to the centre console?? If so, you can tap into the 12V feed to it. This is connected to Terminal 30G which is basically live 12V until the car goes to sleep mode after you've locked it up and set the alarm.

Whatever you do, don't link up directly to the battery!

Hope that answers it for now.

All the Best

Hobi

PS. Are you in the UK? If so, where? And maybe put it in your profile too !
