The mounting position in my car is really nice because you can see the road on the left very cleary and don't have to tale your eyes off the road when looking at the GPS. I really like it, I think you would too. How far does the bracket extend from the center console? I am not quite sure how you could fit in in there.

the gps fits in the little compartment under the indash cd player but the shift knob seems to get in the way so I will most likely go your route.

once again very nicely done

I plug mine into the outlet in front passenger foot well, Installing Garmin GPS (or others). Lots of PICS-footwell_outlet.jpg but I haven't looked under there to see if there is a more elegant solution for hiding the wire.
I'll post my findings.

That is what I wanted to do until I thought that some idiot friend of mind would jam his feet up there and rip out the entire socket and break the outlet.

Don't have too many of those, (just me or the wife 95% of the time) so I'll take my chances.

By the way, while researching this wire issue I discovered that you can put a BMW roundel on the start-up screen, you are welcome to use them, makes the garmin look 'stock'. How does one break a headrest? I guess only idiot friends have the magical power to break everything that is of value.

No, just copy the pics to your computer, then upload to the Garmin as you would any other pic., then find it in the garmin :Tools, Picture viewer, touch the roundel, then info, then check the 'display at power on' box, then you are done.
