I did mine by splicing into the "MENU/VOICE" buttons behind I-Drive. It's simple to remove the switch and its already wired to illuminate automatically when the lights go on (vs. on all the time). When you get the shift know off, also remove the trim panel (snaps off) and simple splice in. No problems and it still seems like a nice mod after 6 months!
