I'm currently in the market for new summer tires. While looking around on the board, I came across a post about Plasti Dipping Wheels?thought it looked interesting. Since I have a dedicated set of wheels for my snow tires, I thought "why not?" It's cheap (I bought 5 cans, and used 3) and it looks like it comes right off it I screw it up or think it looks like crap (rice racer, whatever you want to call it).

The whole process was super straight forward, and did not take a great deal of time - maybe 6 hours.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

?the winter wheels were pretty beat up anyhow, if you were wondering.

My twin car, but I have smoked head and tail lights also. Plasti dip is an easy way to make a change.

Looks good for a winter set! Do you have the link you followed, or some simple steps/tips?

YouTube: search plasti dip - you'll see tons

- remove wheels
- remove center cap
- clean wheels with wheel cleaner and a good brush
- you may want to additionally clean with alcohol. I did not
- I cleaned the rubber with rubber cleaner and a scrubber as well
- thoroughly dry the wheels
- tape the rubber/wheel gap with painters tape (alternate is tu us playing cards and tape)
- tape valve stem
- tape exposed portion of lug nuts and place back in holes
- holding can ~ 12in from surface, apply initial coat. Do not apply too much, or it will pool. Do not apply too close or it will also pool
- allow to dry (10 mins or so)
- apply next coat
- apply 4 - 5 coats ( removal is way easier if there is a thick enough coating)

Helpful?

i guess my only question is, why go through all the hassle and prep work, and use plastidip which will scatch and peel off easy? why not something more permanent?

I think the only way for this to work well & look great is with the car in full satin vinyl wrapped
