I'm sure it works, I'm only worried that it isn't working as well as it can.? Don't forget that the directional arrows depend on how strong the signal is to the rear.? In other words, if the bogey is in front of you and you pass it, I'm sure you've seen the arrows will shift from front, to middle, to rear.? The middle and rear arrows rely on the rear antenna to determine where the source is.? If you're blocking the rear antenna partially, you'll see a larger delay in when the middle and rear arrows light.? Also, the rear laser sensor is the little dot centered under the antenna window.? It shouldn't be blocked at all.
It's probably not that big of a deal but again, it's all about maximizing performance.? Blocking the rear antenna would be like putting low-end tires on the car.? It'll still move, turn, etc., it just won't do it as well as it could...

But that laser thing got me to thinking. Would a laser from the rear be a threat? The few lasers that I have encountered were shooting oncomers not those who had already passed the set up. Such a laser set up would be at a disadvantage since a visual would precede the V1 detection. The only other possibility would be picking up a laser shot from a laser aimed at oncoming traffic in the opposing lane. That woldn't be a threat either.
I appreciate your concern for the driver of your sister ship. Look at these photos I just took and see if you think I need to reconsider my position - both of them. To help with your perspective, the second one was taken from outside the windshield from passenger side.

Those pics look a little different than the first one. The first one looks like the rear antenna is almost entirely blocked by the bulge in the headliner. Now I see you are to the left of it (as I suggested earlier.)
As long as you're comfortable with everything, that's all that matters.
Oh and one quick thing, when I was talking about the side directional arrows, I wasn't concerned about a bogey from the side being a threat -- that's technically impossible. If a cop hit you with radar from the side, you'd be going zero MPH relative to him. My reason for bringing it up was simply a matter of knowing exactly where the threat is as you pass it. The arrows go from front to side to back as you pass the source of the signal. If you block the rear antenna, it won't do it as soon as if the antenna is clear. Get it?

Got it. The first picture was taken before I lost the 28 days. The other three, I took tonight. I had it removed and in the X3 during that time. I remounted V1 when I picked up the car, but it is sitting where I had it for the first picture. Mine is the old model which is probably thicker than yours. It is sitting right on top of the rear view mirror with just enough space not to rattle against it. I don't think I can sit it any higher.

Stu,
When you find out how to get to the wires at the back of the cigarette lighter let me know!!! My dealer recommended that as the best place to take switched power for my Road Angel unit.
The antenna can be fed up at the side of the dash, you need to remove the pillar cover, which clips on...( pull door seal away first to release rear eddge and be careful when working near air bag) I had a good look at the detail here while my windscreen was out this week ( 2nd one in 6 months!!). The pillar cover sits onto top of the dash with about a 20mm overlap, difficult to explain in words but you can thread the cable with the aid of some stiff wire.
Doctor Diesel has done a neat install of his Origin b2... if you seach his posts you can see pictures of antenna etc, he took power from the main bus bar via one of the spare fuse positions at rear of glove box, but this is not switched with the iginition, DD has set his b2 to power off automatically but I cannot do this on the Road Angel.
Let me know how you get on.... when you have done yours pop over and you can install mine ho ho!!

my b2 is actually on a switched ignition feed so it goes off on its own when I switch off the engine, dont know the details as I didn't do the install, paid someone else, but basically it can be done. all i know is the switched feed is somewhere under the ashtray nr the gearstick.
I paid ?40 to have mine hardwired to the car, install was by a company call unicar (UK). the guy had only been allocated 1/2 hour todo the E60 install, took him 3 hours as he had never worked on the E60 before. He did say it was fairly straight forward (if you know what your doing) just lots of trim to remove "carefully" etc etc
