Yes, everything has a chance! just do a little R&D on your 520i. I have done on 545i only... it may work on 550i too..
but I don't have a clue for other series because different engines and different airboxes.

I think the key part here is an ECU remap (like miguex said in his previous posts). Also there need to be a grain whole in the lowest part of the elbow right after the stock M5 intake pipe to allow condensed water to run out of the pipe (similar to what stock silencer has). Speaking of that I am thinking that scoops might drive water directly into the air box - wouldn't that be concern as well?

I'm pretty sure that the OEM airbox has in the lower part a exit for the water run out, but Miguex can prove you that.

Yes, it does. the airbox has 2 small holes in the bottom. I am pretty sure it is for water/snow exit.

I always wondering are the scoops good when there is a heavy rain or a heavy snow?

On heavy rain you have 3 options:
1. Stay at home.
2. Take off the scoops. But even without it, the engine can suck some water. Neither the OEM system will prevent that under heavy rain, high speed and full throttle.
3. Drive slowly. You can make a test: ask a friend to when at idle to give inside your car 0-100% throttle. At the same time put your hands near to the air scoops and see at what % of throttle the engine sucks the enough air to make the water go through the filter. My common sense says not to throttle more than 50% while driving with rain.

I just remember something. You can weld a flat 180? PVC elbow (U-turn) to the OE right air duct. Plastic can be welded, and there are paint shops that can do that. This will save you some headaches and you will also maximize the air flow of the air duct. IMO, better than play-doh to fulfill the gap of the tiny pipe diameter.

As I understand the idea or scoops is to have on-coming stream of air to be pushed to the air box versus engine sucking it so air flow on higher speed would create more power which would be good for shifting, so basically test should be to have leaf blower in front of the scoop and have a water running from the shower head between blower and intake (wow that sounds way too redneck'ish)

Good idea! I am using a big PVC (3") but it is not fitting well, there are small holes that exit air. I will try the U-turn like you said. thanks!

I wonder how about this :

OMFG this just keeps on getting better....

1. Ghetto made air scoops from plumbing, heating supplys
2. The tornado fuel saver/vortex thing
3. Electric supercharger/fan

Haha save the time, effort, money, and embarssment, these mods will yeild you what 1-2 hp? You will not notice it... Than again you might since you think afe intake gave you 25hp.

Non of these mods will improve anything, get out of the guttar, go buy a civic.
