Thumbs up

Hey fellow members, I read all the threads on brake/rotor change. I just ordered cross drilled/slotted rotos with new pads and will attempt to change it myself. I have never done this project before on any car. I am attempting do it myself because I would like to paint the calipers too. Now, saved all the threads with all the good info on changing the setup but wondered if I will need a special for the piston? Will the piston be in already and not out? Just curious. Having no experience but really handy, should I even make this attempt, just really nervous!! Thanks for all the feedback, thanks.

A big C-clamp is what I use to press the piston in. GL Pare .

Salamat Rizbel, will go to the store tomorrow and get the tool just incase. So the piston will come out as soon as you remove the pad, right? thanks

I'm not sure what your asking here....To compress the piston just use a c clamp and a big socket....Open the master cylinder before compressing so you dont have brake fluid overflowing due to pressure...
If you want the piston to come out of the caliper you can take the caliper off...Then blow air in the bleeder screw and it will pop out...You shouldn't need to take out the piston...Just mask it before painting...Changing the rotors and brakes should only take an hour or so...I changed my brakes and rotors in a parking lot with basic tools and a floor jack in less than an hour the other day....You will probably need a braking bar or air tools to take of the caliper bracket before you can remove the rotor...

thanks Skeeter, to clarify, i was wondering if the piston stays in (or intact) when removing the pad? It sounds like it shouldnt and if it does, just take a C clamp to push it back in. Thanks for the added info about opening the master cylendar, I was not even thinking of that. Should I open it from the start? thanks

Once you take off the caliper, remove the old pads... put a large socket into the piston...From there take a big c clamp and compress it in....Open the lid to master cylinder before you start the job...Then take off the 2 large bolts holding the caliper bracket on...This is where you will need a breaking bar or an air gun...Once that is off use a flat blade screw drive to take off the rubber stopper on the hub of the rotor...Then take off the retaining screw which holds the rotor on....Then take a rubber malet and give it a couple good hits, depending on how stuck it is to the hub...It may come off easy if not use the rubber hammer....
