I recently purchased a CPO 2005 545i, and the previous owner lived in Arizona where they get more than their share of blowing sand etc. My headlight shields (foglights and windshield too) are very pitted, is there a way to replace just the plastic shield on these cars? Let me know!

looking at the lights it is all in 1 piece.
when you have change the lights or the plastic shield, you must get the 3M clear bra then you will not have any more damage to them.

As I have taken the headlights out a couple of times already, it kind of looks like the clear plastic shield is only held in place by some metal clips. I'm just not sure if anybody out there has replaced these or not. Please let me know!

I dont know for sure but on the E46 there where two types of light the ones which clipped off by ZKW
and the coupe/M3 ones (AL bosch), which you had to heat a little to separate the front seal - I suspect this is the case with the E60 hella lights ?? they a similar materials.

BMW sell two headlight repair parts one for the top clip which smashes easily and another "repair kit" kit maybe ask whats in this ?

I have pair of lights im going to fit in future and looked at this, ive no idea what temporature you set you oven to is this is true,
some rather obvious risks !! of ending up with a melted headlight.

Maybe get someone to look it up in BMW TIS ? or Phone you local Hella office

I don't know about replacement but I know plastic can be polished to near new as for windshield I would just buy a new one, they definitely have a definitive lifespan , especially with heavy road grime and sand.

Good Luck

To me it certainly looked as though the headlight shields would come loose if the metal clips were undone. I hope its the case, as the shields are really pitted and it just plainly looks bad, on an otherwise pristine car.
