I usually buy "premium" gasoline from a big-box store that pumps lots of gasoline. Typically the same one a few miles from my home.

From time to time I'll buy Sonoco Ultra or Shell V-Power if I'm near one of the stations that sell those grades just a few cents more than my usual fueling stop. Of course I can't tell that for sure, but generally is a gasoline retailer keeps the station clean and organized and the pump jockeys look like they actually give a darn I'm thinking the place is run like a business. e.g. not having poorly maintained tanks or pump filters.

I have, on some long road trips, filled up with "regular" grade gasoline - once again, from a "branded" station that looked like they kept their pump filters in good shape. The only discernible difference using "regular" grade gasoline is a little less power and slightly poorer gas mileage.

All that said, practicing the above behaviors for years I have never had a fuel related problem in several cars (even Toyota's --- heaven forbid) over several 100's of thousands of miles ... no plugged filters ... no water in the gas ... etc.

I do, twice a year, add a bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner. I usually do that just before taking a long (300+ miles) trip. And I definitely do that once a year for my Z3 Roadster that is driven less than 1000 miles a year.

So, that's my story and I'm stickin to it :-)

On my 535 I've ran them all and focused mainly on mid grade. only until my low pres sensor go out it got me thinking and the following eight months my hpfp went out. Now I only run premium. Not sure if running the lower grades had anything to do with the other issues I had. On a M3 I had several years back I had to run premium otherwise I would get a nasty knocking sound!
