Front Wood Trim Install DIY
#41
i don't have my invoice with me now. it's easy to have your parts dept look up your vin and they can order that for you. i don't see you have nav in your sig so yours should have a cubby hole like mine or the pics. i paid a very good price on the trim and they installed it for me .

I'm looking to install a GPS speed detector in place of the cigarette lighter and ashtray. Is it possible to remove this without taking the whole wood trim off from underneath the idrive display?

Hi SG535d
Unfortunately, you have the remove the centre console trim completely in order to get at the ashtray section so that you can remove it.
Note:
The ashtray section is actually in one piece with the lighter socket attached. In the frame of this section are two retaining clips that hold the front part of the centre trim piece down. If you completely remove this frame, you won't be able to secure the trim down properly and MIGHT get rattling noises. The best thing to do would be to use a Dremel or something to remove all bits of plastic etc, leaving the frame intact.
I wish I could post a picture of the actual piece here but I'm on my way to the UK. If you can wait until Tuesday afternoon, then I will surely put an image of the thing here. Or maybe someone else has a picture for you???
All the Best

Looks much better with the wood trim there instead of the plastic.
